The BSU Overnight Program is in partnership with the SPACES/ SIAPS Overnight Program. Both programs will be occurring simultaneously and will join together for certain activities. More information on SPACES can be found at http://spaces.ucsd.edu

GENERAL INFORMATION

How long is the BSU Overnight Program?
The BSU Overnight Program is a 2 night, 3 day program. The program will start at 5:00pm on Thursday, April 8 and end at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10. Admit Day activities will immediately follow the end of the program.

Is there a fee to participate in the BSU Overnight Program?
This program is offered to you at no cost! All meals, lodging, and transportation (when applicable) will be provided at no charge. It is advised that participants bring money to purchase any snacks and souvenirs.

Who is the BSU Overnight Program for? Can my parents participate?
The program is limited to invited UC San Diego admitted students only. Parents and families are more than welcome to join participants during the Saturday breakfast and Admit Day Activities, which is on April 10, but they will not be able to participate in the BSU Overnight program.

What type of activities will be planned?
Participants will have the opportunity to visit real classes, eat at one of the dining halls, and visit departments to ask specific questions. A campus tour, workshops, social activities will be provided that include Black alumni, staff, and faculty. Participants will also be interacting with various campus resources such as student organizations, campus community centers, academic departments, and other student services.

APPLYING TO PARTICIPATE

I do not have access to a fax machine. How else can I submit my application?

My friend did not receive an invitation letter the BSU Overnight, but would like to attend. How can my friend participate in the program?
The BSU Overnight Program is an invitation-only program. Unfortunately, we can only accommodate a limited number of participants, thus a select number of UC San Diego admitted high school seniors have been invited to attend the program.

Upon submission of my application, am I guaranteed as a participant of the program?
No. We accept participants into the program on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all spaces have been filled, any remaining applicants interested in participating in the program will be placed on a waitlist.

When is the last day to submit the application?
The last day to submit the application is Wednesday, March 24, 2011. We will take applications submitted after the 24th of March into consideration if spaces are still available. It is highly recommended that applications be submitted as soon as possible, since spaces will fill up quickly!

How will I know that I have been accepted into the BSU Overnight Program?
You will receive an email confirmation stating whether or not you have been accepted into the program. If you have not received an email confirmation by Wednesday, March 31st, please call (858)534-7330 to obtain the status of your application.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Where will I be staying? Will I be staying in my admitted college?
BSU Overnight Program participants will be paired up with a current undergraduate (most likely a current student member from the BSU) and will stay with them at one of UC San Diego's six colleges. We will try our best to place you at your college of admission, but this is not guaranteed.

Will you be providing transportation?
One-way transportation may be provided to students coming from the Los Angeles and Inland Empire counties to UC San Diego. Students who are coming from the San Francisco/Bay Area may be provided roundtrip airfare, based on need. If transportation is needed, please indicate this on the application and we will contact you if we are able to make transportation arrangements for you.

Which meals will be provided?
Meals that will be provided are for Thursday's Dinner; Friday's Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner, and Saturday's Breakfast.

Do we have to stay at the program the entire time?
Your decision to participate in the BSU Overnight Program implies that you will be available to participate for the entire duration of the program. You will be expected to participate in all activities and thus, we will not accept students who cannot commit to the full 3 days of the program.
